Asean Skill Competition (ASC) is an implementation of agreement between the ministers of labor (10th ASEAN in Singapore in 1994). ASC is an ASEAN level skill competition, as the pathway to World Skill Competitions (WSC). These two competitions were held once in two years in turns; ASC is held in even years and WSC is held in odd years. Participant's countries that join ASC are: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Philippines. Previous ASC which has already implemented are:

  1. ASC I in 1995 held in Malaysia
  2. ASC II in 1998 held in Philippine
  3. ASC III in 2000 held in Thailand
  4. ASC IV in 2002 held in Indonesia
  5. ASC V in 2004 held in Vietnam
  6. ASC VI in 2006 held in Brunei Darussalam
  7. ASC VII in 2008 held in Malaysia
  8. ASC VIII in 2010 held in Thailand
  9. ASC IX in 2012 held in Indonesia
  10. ASC X in 2014 held in Vietnam (the next event which is being prepared)

In the last ASC that held in Jakarta, Indonesia get 19 gold medals, 12 silver medals, 2 bronze medals and 13 Diploma. For ASC IX in Jakarta, there are 24 fields of competition (complete field will be decided on Organizing Committee Meeting in Vietnam by representative of all member countries in October 2013):

Selection process in Indonesia is held by The Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenakertrans). Other than doing their own selection process, Kemenakertrans cooperates with several institutions. Kemenakertrans cooperates with BINUS University for the materials related to Information Technology, and manage by BINUS in form of BNSC (Bina Nusantara Skill Competition) which cover these skills:

  1. Information Technology - Software Solutions for Business
  2. Mechanical Engineering Design - CAD
  3. Web Design
  4. Graphic Design Technology
  5. Information Technology - Network System Administration

This Competition is intended to improve motivation and to develop talent of Indonesian young students in Information Technology and Design. The winners will be asked to participate in selection process to represent Indonesia in 10th ASEAN SKILLS COMPETITION (ASC) on November 2014 in Vietnam.

The final round of BNSC will be held together with other skills held in Kemenakertrans around end of August (the exact date have not been announced from the government). For each skills in BNSC there will be preliminary elimination that will be held on July 28th, 2013 August 25th, 2013. From each skills there will be varied of competitor eligible to the final round based on skills, quota and number of provincial winner.

On the final round will compete the 1 representative of provincial winner and those who have been selected in preliminary elimination. In the final round (national selection) for each fields of competition, we will select 3 people as the winners to join 1st training center (around 3 months). The obligation to join the training is as the prime condition to roll in the selection process. The winners from the elimination will represent Indonesia in 10th ASC (after running 2nd training center about 6 months).
