ASEAN Skill Competition (ASC) is an implementation of agreement between the ministers of labor (10th ASEAN in Singapore in 1994). Where it was agreed that there be a biennial skill competition among ASEAN member countries. ASC is an ASEAN level skill competition, as the pathway to World Skill Competitions (WSC). These two competitions were held once in two years in turns; ASC is held in even years and WSC is held in odd years. Participating Countries are: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Lao PDR, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Philippines. Lists of ASC:

- 12th ASC hosted by Thailand in 2018 (the next event which is being prepared)
In the last ASC which was held in Malaysia, Indonesia got 13 gold medals, 2 silver medals, 7 bronze medals and 14 medallion for excellence. In 11th ASC which was hosted by Malaysia, there were 24 skills categories. The skill categories are:

For the 12th ASC, the competition fields were determined in Organizing Committee Meeting (OCM) in Thailand by representatives from all member countries in September 2017.
The competitor selection and training process in Indonesia is conducted by The Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia (Kementerian Ketenagakerjaan Republik Indonesia - Kemnaker). During the selection and training center phase, Kemnaker cooperates with several institutions. Kemnaker cooperates with BINUS University for conducting selection and training for competition fields which are related to Information and Communication Technology, Manufacturing and Engineering Technology and Creative Arts and Fashion. BINUS University held BNSC (Bina Nusantara Skills Competition) which covered skills below:

- Mechanical Engineering Design - CAD
- Web Design and Development
- Graphic Design Technology
- Information Technology - Network System Administration
The final round of BNSC will be held together with other skills held by Kemenaker on September 5th - 9th, 2017 as national selection for ASC Competitor. Competitors in national selection are representatives of provincial selection, Industrial Selection (BNSC) and also LKS (Lomba Kompetensi Siswa Nasional) winners.
For each skill in BNSC there will be preliminary elimination that will be held on August 13th, 2017. Numbers of competitors from each skill that will be proceed to final round may vary based on skills, quota and number of provincial winner.
In the final round (national selection), each competition field will select 3 winners who must join training center for 6 months. After the training, from those 3 winners there are only 2 winners who will represent Indonesia in the 12th ASC 2018 in Thailand.
