Asean Skill Competition (ASC) is an implementation of agreement between the ministers of labor (10^th ASEAN in Singapore in 1994). Where it was agreed that there be a biennial skill competition among ASEAN member countries. ASC is an ASEAN level skill competition, as the pathway to World Skill Competitions (WSC). These two competitions were held once in two years in turns; ASC is held in even years and WSC is held in odd years. Participating Countries are: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Lao PDR, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Philippines. Below are ASC histories:

• 1^st ASC hosted by Malaysia from 12-23 August 1995 - 6 skills areas
• 2^nd ASC hosted by Philippines from 10-17 December 1996 - 10 skills areas
• 3^rd ASC hosted by Thailand from 16-18 March 2001 - 12 skills areas
• 4^th ASC hosted by Indonesia from 1-10 October 2002 - 12 skills areas
• 5^th ASC hosted by Vietnam from 21-30 September 2004 - 14 skills areas
• 6^th ASC hosted by Brunei Darussalam from 3-12 September 2006 - 12 skills areas
• 7^th ASC hasted by Malaysia from 10 -19 November 2008 - 19 skills areas
• 8^th ASC hosted by Thailand from 14-24 November 2010 - 21 skills areas
• 9^th ASC hosted by Indonesia from 14-19 November 2012 - 36 skills areas
• 10^th ASC hosted by Vietnam from 23-28 October 2014 - 25 skills areas
• 11^th ASC Hosted by Malaysia from 19-29 September 2016 (the next event which is being prepared)

In the last ASC which was held in Vietnam, Indonesia got 10 gold medals, 3 silver medals, 9 bronze medals and 10 Diploma. In 10th ASC which was hosted by Vietnam, there were 25 fields of competition. The competition fields are:

For 11^th ASC, the competition fields were determined in Organizing Committee Meeting (OCM) in Malaysia by representatives from all member countries in October 2015.

The competitor selection and training process in Indonesia is conducted by The Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia (Kementerian Ketenagakerjaan Republik Indonesia - Kemnaker). During the selection and training center phase, Kemnaker cooperates with several institutions. Kemnaker cooperates with BINUS University for conducting selection and training for competition fields which are related to Information and Communication Technology, Manufacturing and Engineering Technology and Creative Arts and Fashion. BINUS University held BNSC (Bina Nusantara Skills Competition) which covered skills below:

• Information Technology - Software Solutions for Business
• Mechanical Engineering Design - CAD
• Web Design
• Graphic Design Technology
• Information Technology - Network System Administration

The final round of BNSC will be held together with other skills held by Kemenaker on November 2015 as national selection for ASC Competitor. Competitors in national selection are representatives of provincial selection, Industrial Selection (BNSC) and also LKS (Lomba Kompetensi Siswa) winners.

For each skill in BNSC there will be preliminary elimination that will be held on:

• October 18^th, 2015 - October 25^th, 2015 (for Web Design and Graphic Design Technology)
• October 25^th, 2015 (for IT Software Solution for Business, IT Network System Administration, and Mechanical Engineering Design - CAD)

Numbers of competitors from each skill that will be proceed to final round may vary based on skills, quota and number of provincial winner.

In the final round (national selection), each competition field will select 3 winners who must join training center for 6 months. After the training, from those 3 winners there are only 2 winners who will represent Indonesia in the 11^th ASC 2016 in Malaysia.
